"A Study in Emerald" is a short story by Neil Gaiman that first appeared in Shadows Over Baker Street, a collection of stories that combine the worlds of Sherlock Holmes and the Cthulhu Mythos. Gaiman's story, whose title is a reference to A Study in Scarlet, the Arthur Conan Doyle novel that introduced Holmes, transposes the characters from Doyle's fiction into an England where the Great Old Ones have ruled for 700 years. The story won the Hugo Award for Best Short Story in 2004.
"A Study in Emerald" was reprinted in Gaiman's 2006 collection Fragile Things.
