Among the pictures are these: is a short essay written by Ramsey Campbell and included in his 1985 collection of short horror fiction Cold Print.

Little more than a handful of pages composed of single-paragraph descriptions of his early sketches written in truncated sentences, Campbell said in 1984 of Among the pictures are these::
“ | In a sense, Among the pictures are these: is . . . a literal description written in 1973 of some drawings I executed in my early teens. | „ |
Whilst many of the sketches apparently portrayed a high degree of surrealism, the influence of H.P. Lovecraft on the young Campbell can be seen shining through in several others.
It should be noted that, while Among the pictures are these: includes descriptions of Campbell's artwork, the sketches themselves were never published.
Publication History[]
Although written in 1973, Among the pictures are these: did not see publication until 1981 in the March 16th edition of Nyctalops Magazine. It was later reprinted in the Scream/Press release of Cold Print, and it's 1987 and 1993 reprints by Tor Books and Headline, respectively.
