Dr. Andrew Doran is a character created by American author Matthew Davenport for his Cthulhu Mythos series to which he lends his name. An action-archaeologist in the style of Indiana Jones, he made his first appearance in the novel The Statement of Andrew Doran in 2013.
Description[]
An athletic man with a thick crop of unruly brown hair and matching beard, Doran is a proficient user of magic, although he claims that his internal reserves are small and exhausting to use. He is an alumni of Miskatonic University who, at the series beginning, is working as a field archaeologist in Mexico, but later returns to his alma mater to take up the position of Dean.
Olivia[]
Doran is accompanied by a "woman" named Olivia who is stated to be an aspect of his psyche self-manufactured to protect him from the horrors which he has witnessed. Through Olivia, he is able to perform actions which would shatter the sanity of a normal person: this would seem to suggest that rather than an aspect of Doran's psyche, she is an entirely separate personality, or has perhaps even become her own entity.
History[]
Prior to 1941, Doran had spent a year living amongst a tribe of Night Gaunt-worshipping natives named the Night Watchers in Mexico. For some unspecified reason, they sentenced him to death, but were unsuccessful in their execution (EXP: The Statement of Andrew Doran).
In 1941, he was tasked by the serving Dean of Miskatonic University with recovering their copy of the Necronomicon, which had been stolen by the Traum Kult, an occult group in service to the Nazis. In the aftermath of the expedition, he is appointed the new Dean of Miskatonic (EXP: The Statement of Andrew Doran).
