Synopsis[]

The unnamed narrator and their partner Alice, private investigators specialising in industrial cases, are engaged by genetic self-help company Andyne to look into possible corporate misconduct in one of their research facilities. They uncover a cooperative effort between the scientists - both those at this particular facility and others worldwide - and an insectile alien species named the Mi-go to "improve" the human species on a genetic level. Stunned and disgusted by this revelation, the two investigators kill the lead scientist and his latest half-human creation before reporting their findings in the hopes that something may be done to stop the global conspiracy.

In the aftermath, the investigators suffer terrible blows to their sanity, and Alice is committed to a mental health facility. In the news, the narrator begins to see signs that the conspiracy may not have been exterminated as he had hoped, and he worries that the Earth will soon be little more than a Mi-go colony.
