Blupes are a fictional species created by Sandy Petersen and featured in the role-playing game Call of Cthulhu, in which they're classified as a lesser servitor race.
Description[]
Blupes are translucent creatures that float through the air and glow faintly in the dark. Their bodies are elliptical in shape, with rubbery fin-like protuberances giving them a "wingspan" of about 3 ft (~ 91 cm). They produce a distinctive "clean odor", similar to the smell associated with storms and heavy rains. In terms of disposition, they have been described as "friendly".
Blupes originate from the Dark Dimension, an otherworldly realm described as "an opaline plane where light radiates as blackness and shadows have wavelengths". Within the Dark Dimension, they inhabit the Cire Enicar area, where the atmosphere is composed almost entirely of water vapour.
While they can be summoned to both the Waking World and the Dreamlands, Blupes are extremely vulnerable to dehydration, and rarely survive for more than 10 to 15 days away from their natural habitat. Although keeping them in humid areas or underwater will allow them to last longer, Blupes can neither feed nor breed outside of the Dark Dimension.
Blupes are naturally drawn towards fire, which is extinguished as soon as the Blupe touches it, dousing the flames upon contact. However, the Blupe itself might also be destroyed in the process of extinguishing the flames. While harmless to most species, contact with a Blupe can be fatal to some forms of life, such as the Fire Vampires and the Minions of Karakal. (EXP: S.
