This subject contains information from the Expanded Cthulhu Mythos, and not based on H.P. Lovecraft's works directly. The Bouda are part of Ethiopian folk religion. Chaosium first used them in 2009 for their Call of Cthulhu role-playing game.

Background[]

The Bouda are race of shapeshifters who at will are able to change from their human forms to hyenas, usually doing so at night. In their beast form, they look exactly like hyenas, except larger and heavier. Being up to a foot taller and at least fifty pounds heavier.

They have a complex social structure and are fiercely loyal to each other. Bouda have worked for a number of Mythos deities, but are aligned and loyal to none. They have roamed across Africa for over 20 million years, and are a race skilled in magic and famous for their proficiency in metalworking.

Trivia[]

A version of this mythological creature appeared in an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Season 1, Episode 6 "The Pack"), and a different version appeared in the Monster Manual for Dungeons & Dragons Second Edition.
