This subject is written on a topic in the real world and reflects factual information. This subject contains information from the Expanded Cthulhu Mythos, and not based on H.P. Lovecraft's works directly. "Broadsword" is a short Cthulhu Mythos story by prolific British author William Meikle.

“Stop this war. Or you will die.” With these words and the destruction of Turin, the alien Mi-go launch a bid for domination of the Earth in 1940. In response, Berlin and London each send small teams of highly-trained men into the Andes to investigate the suspected site of the aliens' deadly weapon and neutralise it. Although the German team is captured by the Mi-go, the British soldiers are successful, and call in a bombing raid which destroys the alien base.

  • Sandy, the narrator and British team member.
  • Captain Dave Collins, leader of the British expedition.

Publication History[]

"Broadsword" was first published in the thematic anthology World War Cthulhu in 2014, and later appeared in the collection of Meikle's own work Into the Black: Tales of Lovecraftian Terror in 2019.

  • The name of the mountain on which the Mi-go base is located, the Trollenburg, is possibly a nod to the 1958 sci-fi horror B-movie The Trollenburg Terror, which features a Lovecraftian creature on a mountain of the same name.
