This subject contains information from the Expanded Cthulhu Mythos, and not based on H.P. Lovecraft's works directly. According to Australian folklore, the Bunyip is a type of man-eating aquatic monster that lurks in lakes and billabongs. This species has been incorporated into the Mythos by the role-playing game Call of Cthulhu.

Description[]

Bunyips are large, aquatic predators with glowing eyes and clawed flippers. Their bodies are covered by a strange combination of scales, fur and feathers. When standing on their hind legs on land, they can be as tall as 12 ft or more. When they hunt, they produce a distinctive sound described as "dire and desolate as death".

Bunyips eat humans and have a preference for women specifically. They also have the supernatural ability to raise and lower the water level of their native pond or billabong at will. (EXP: Terror Australis)
