Castle Freak is a 2020 remake of the 1995 film of the same name. It was directed by Tate Steinsiek from a script by Kathy Charles, based on H. P. Lovecraft's short story "The Outsider". ("The Dunwich Horror" is also a major inspiration.)
Synopsis[]
The film centers on Rebecca Riley, a young American woman blinded in an accident caused by her boyfriend John's drunk driving. She inherits a castle in Albania from her biological mother, Lavinia Whateley, who gave her up for adoption when she was a baby. It turns out that Rebecca has a monstrous twin living secretly in the castle--and both she and her sister are the daughters of Yog-Sothoth. Her friend The Professor reads a copy of the Necronomicon that Rebecca discovers in the castle, and he urges her to join hands with her sister to open a gate for the Great Old Ones.
In a post-credit sequence, The Professor addresses a man called West who has a vial of glowing green liquid on his desk--and West calls The Professor "Armitage".
Connections[]
John and Rebecca's accident happens on I-95 near Dunwich, Massachusetts.
The Professor speculates that Rebecca's Necronomicon might be the one stolen from Miskatonic University in the 1920s. At one point he is seen wearing a Miskatonic T-shirt.
Trivia[]
- Barbara Crampton, star of the original Castle Freak and several other Lovecraftian films, worked as a producer on the remake.
