Synopsis[]

A man on the run from his sorcerous father flees a across country, believing that only by reaching the ocean will his father's psychic tormenting cease. When he reaches the coast, he realises that he is mistaken, and that all the while the old man was calling him to that very spot. Fortunately, an idol which the man purchased from a sailor in Innsmouth proves to be his salvation, and the use of it summons a colossal monstrosity from beneath the waves which consumes his father.

Publication History[]

"Chasing Sunset" was first published in the Lovecraftian anthology Whispers from the Abyss by 01Publishing in 2013. It was also included in the October 2015 anthology The Monstrous.

Trivia[]

  • The description of the aquatic leviathan would suggest that the entity is intended to be Cthulhu, or perhaps one of the Star-Spawn.
