The H.P. Lovecraft Wiki

This subject is written on a topic in the real world and reflects factual information. 🐙 "Church of the Renewed Covenant" is a tongue-in-check Lovecraftian short story by author Shannon Fay. It was published in the thematic anthology Tomorrow's Cthulhu by Broken Eye Books in January 2016.[1]

Synopsis[]

A couple visit the Church of the Renewed Covenant in search of a suitable place for their young family to worship the "elder gods" which sleep beneath the Earth. However, they decide that this particular church is not the one for them once they realise that the staid congregation are "a bunch of sexist, racist homophobes," and lack a choir.

Behind the Mythos[]

There are a handful of references which quietly suggest a Cthulhu Mythos connection. These include the aforementioned elder gods being the object of the church's veneration, and the father noting that it was "a faith born out of a paranoid New England man’s fear," referring to said man as "old Crafty," a description which would appear to suggest that the basis for the religion was the fiction of H. P. Lovecraft.
