This subject is written on a topic in the real world and reflects factual information. This subject contains information from the Expanded Cthulhu Mythos, and not based on H.P. Lovecraft's works directly. Crouch End is an episode of Nightmares & Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King, and is based on King's short work of the same name.

Synopsis[]

A young American couple on their way to a colleague's dinner party become stranded in the seemingly-idyllic London suburb of Crouch End. However, Crouch End is a place where the barriers between dimensions have rubbed thin, and as their sanity begins to unravel, the husband is snatched by a horror from the beyond.

Characters[]

  • Lonnie Frehman, a successful lawyer.
  • Doris Frehman, Lonnie's wife.
  • Archibald, a London cab driver.

Behind the Mythos[]

Crouch End is based on the Stephen King short story of the same name, and remains largely faithful to the original, the main deviation being the removal of the police officers as a source of exposition, this being left to the character of Archie the cab driver. Lonnie's ultimate fate is also given an additional twist, as he is apparently transformed into one of Crouch End's cats, rather than being simply swallowed by the eldritch entity.

The episode was released by TNT in July 2006 as episode 2 of Nightmares and Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King. It stars Claire Forlani and Eoin Bailey as Doris and Lonnie Frehman.

Mythos Connections[]

  • Several Mythos entities are made reference to, including Cthulhu Kryon (Cthulhu), Yogsoggoth (Yog-Sothoth) and Nrtesn Nyarlahotep (Nyarlathotep). Lonnie is heavily implied to have been taken by The Goat with a Thousand Young (Shub-Niggurath).
