Synopsis[]
Case No. 08: "Nemesis Strikes!"[]
As the battle continues, Narukami Chikage is overwhelmed by the wolfman attacking him from all angles. Sphinx explains that the wolfman had become the leader of the Aku-Shin Kage, a terrorist group in K'n-yan that worships the Black Buddha and seeks to bring salvation to the world by wiping out humanity. Meanwhile, Crow attempted to use the Mirror of Nitocris during his fight against Nemesis; however, it didn't work due to Nemesis already being blind, leading to Crow getting shot in the head.
Out of desperation, Narukami transforms into the Haunter; although the wolfman made quick work of him, Narukami gains the upper hand after coming back as the Tick-Tock Man. As Narukami's levels of Night Chaos got higher, Sphinx decides that it's time to use the power of the Mask and Azana Hatsumi, in order to initiate his plan. Yogurama Mugen foresees that Sphinx will be destroyed by Narukami; however, Sphinx disregards her warning, asserting that it is impossible to capture him, as he embodies the very essence of chaos. After Sphinx leaves, Mugen tells him by his true divine title not to take the will that opposes the Evil Gods lightly, with her chess board revealed to be a projection of the destroyed multiverse where only one world remains.
Case No. 09: "Masks of Nyarlathotep"[]
After dismembering the wolfman's body, Narukami loses control as the Tick-Tock Man, causing him to attack Azana with his tentacles; however, he is interrupted when Sphinx manifests through the wolfman's severed head. Initially taking the form of Black Pharaoh, Sphinx manages to overpower Narukami by transforming into several other avatars of Nyarlathotep including Ahtu, The Beast and the Black Fan, reducing him to a puddle-like state.
Meanwhile, Nemesis attempts to take out the Asylum by destroying the main system but ultimately fails when the doctor reveals that it is actually a mechanical manifestation of Nyarlathotep, known as the Clockwork Phantom. Shortly afterwards, Nemesis gets shot to death by Crow, who was able to regenerate from the headshot due to his body being inhabited by Dunsany, a living weapon created by the Old Ones.
As Narukami's body and soul was entirely consumed by Night Chaos, Sphinx reveals that Azana is not actually a human after all.
Case No. 10: "The Twilight Angel"[]
When Sphinx explained that Azana is a Freak who had been infected by the Color of the blind-idiot creator Azathoth, the Daemon Sultan of All Things and leader of the Outer Gods, Crow decides to attack both of them; however, Crow was unable to use the Shining Trapezohedron against Sphinx due to him being neither a hero of ultimate good or a demon who had fallen into the ultimate evil, essentially becoming "nothing more than trash". Sphinx precedes to reclaim Narukami, transforming into another manifestation of Nyarlathotep, known as the "Thousand Masks", which ends up consuming Azana.
Sent to a realm of absolute nothingness, Azana encounters the Throne of Azathoth, only to see that it was empty, before witnessing an alternate world that was swallowed up by destruction. As all the parallel universes were already destroyed, Mugen tells Azana that her world will soon disappear as well, unless she can take the power of the creator god Azathoth and remake the universe. Azana accepts the deal, at the cost of never being a human again. Back at the Asylum, Azana manages to turn Narukami into Ultharathotep, freeing both of them from Sphinx.
Case No. 11: "Look to the Future"[]
Sphinx could not recognize Ultharathotep, as the entity was an Elder God that didn't exist in this universe, leading to Sphinx attacking Azana for being responsible for it; however, Azana was protected by her D-Phone, which transformed into the armor she's wearing. Attempting to erase Ultharathotep from existence, Sphinx transforms into the "Faceless Zero", the most powerful avatar he has access to, only to get beaten to a bloody pulp when Crow summoned his Deus Machina.
After abandoning his Faceless Zero avatar, Sphinx tries to flee from the universe, only to be transported back to the classroom. Sphinx realizes that Mugen was responsible for everything that had happened, with him being powerless to stop Azana from remaking the universe. Now proclaiming to be "The Haughty and Arrogant Demiurge", it's revealed that the very universe itself is actually Azana's Artifact, which explains why the Asylum was unable to detect the presence of "Color" or confirm that she's a Freak earlier. Fulfilling his promise to protect the world, Ultharathotep finally defeats Sphinx with the Silver Key; when Sphinx tried to flee again, Azana gave the Elder Sign to Ultharathotep, allowing him to finish Sphinx off before turning back into Narukami.
Case No. 12: "Malleus Monstrorum"[]
Back at the classroom, Azana and Mugen were reliving the conversation they had earlier, with Mugen noticing how much of a Freak that she has become. Meanwhile, Narukami has an encounter with Crow; despite still acknowledging him as Nyarlathotep, Crow had no intentions on attacking Narukami but questioned what he was going to do with his power. Both Narukami and Azana were fine with what they are, as long as they can continue to protect others; however, the doctor wonders how long they can continue to fight after losing the World War D and making enemies with the "God of Vortex Destruction".
Elsewhere, 642 light years away from Earth, the red giant Betelgeuse exploded, revealing a one-armed robot as its howl echoed throughout the entire universe.
Mythos Connections[]

- Case No. 09: "Masks of Nyarlathotep"
- The title is a reference to the gaming supplement of the same name.
- The wolfman uses the chant "Ia Nyarlathotep" in order for Sphinx to manifest. The kanji is a common Buddhist incantation "Namu Amida Butsu", a nod to the wolfman being a member of the assassination group named Aku-Shin Kage who worships the Black Buddha.

- The title is a reference to the similarly-named scenario for the role-playing game Call of Cthulhu, released exclusively in Japan.
- When Sphinx mentioned that only the hero of ultimate justice or the demon of ultimate evil can use the Trapezohedron, there is a brief cameo of Daijuuji Kurou and Master Therion; referencing the climax of Al Azif's route in the visual novel Deus Machina Demonbane, where Demonbane and Liber Legis summoned the Trapezohedron to settle their eternal rivalry.
- Additionally, the corpses of the Anticross members Claudius and Tiberius can be seen in the background while Azana was witnessing a world swallowed by destruction.
