Lovecraft's works directly. Demons by Daylight is an anthology of short horror stories by British author Ramsey Campbell. It is divided into two thematically-linked sections, Nightmares and Relationships, and contains several stories linked to the larger Cthulhu Mythos.

Publication History[]

First published in 1973 by Arkham House, Demons by Daylight had originally been scheduled for a 1971 release; however, the death of the company's co-founder and chief editor August Derleth that year caused a two-year delay. In 1979, a revised edition was published by Jove/HBJ with "The Second Staircase" removed and replaced with two other stories, "Reply Guaranteed" and "The Telephones," but the 1980 Star reprint restored the original story line-up. It was reissued by Carroll & Graf in 1998, and by Lume Books in 2017, who included a digital version with their release.

Demons by Daylight has also been translated into German under the title Dämonen bei Tag, although it retains "Demons by Daylight" as an English tagline.
