𝓦𝐓 "Dig Me No Grave" is a short story by American fantasy and horror writer Robert E. Howard, published in the February, 1937 issue of Weird Tales. It was also published as "John Grimlan's Debt".[1]

It is part of a series of stories by Howard that are set in H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos.[2]

Adaptations[]

The story was adapted by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane in Marvel's horror comic Journey into Mystery, with some variations, including the change of some of names:

  • Only Grimlan is named John (in the original story, both Grimlan and Conrad are named by their first name). John Conrad is only named "Professor Conrad", and John Kirowan became "Dan Kirowan". Those changes were possibly made for the sake of clarity and to avoid the repetition.
  • The names-droppings mentions "Shuma-Gorath" (the first mention of that name -created by Robert E. Howard-, and later developed in Marvel comics as the lord of the Great Old Ones), instead of "Yog-Sothoth" and "Kathulos" in the original story, ignore a mention to the "black cyclopean walls of Koth", and replace "Yuggoth" by "Acheron".
