Lovecraft's works directly. Donald Richard Burleson (born 1941) is a fiction writer, literary critic, professional mathematician, and UFO researcher. He has written extensively on the work of H. P. Lovecraft and has contributed numerous stories to the Cthulhu Mythos.

His literary criticism includes the books H. P. Lovecraft: A Critical Study (1983) and Lovecraft: Disturbing the Universe (1990).

His Mythos and Mythos-related fiction has appeared in such collections as The New Lovecraft Circle, The Azathoth Cycle, The Cthulhu Cycle, Made in Goatswood, Acolytes of Cthulhu, Black Wings of Cthulhu, Black Wings of Cthulhu 3, and Gothic Lovecraft.

Overview[]

Burleson studied at several universities, including Yale and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He has master's degrees in English and mathematics, and a PhD in English literature. (His dissertation was on Lovecraft.) He was on the mathematics faculty of Eastern New Mexico University.

Burleson is New Mexico state director of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON). His nonfiction books about UFOs include The Golden Age of UFOs, UFOs and the Murder of Marilyn Monroe, and UFO Secrecy and the Fall of J. Robert Oppenheimer (all from Black Mesa Press).

He is married to Mollie L. Burleson, who has also written Mythos fiction. Meeting at a horror convention in Providence in 1979, they were both also members of the Providence Pals, an informal group of H. P. Lovecraft enthusiasts and scholars active from the late 1970s through to the 1990s.
