"Drawing No. 8" is a short Cthulhu Mythos story by American author Jeffrey Thomas, which takes place in his futuristic Punktown setting. It was first published in the collection Haunted Worlds by Hippocampus Press in August 2017 [1].
The story forms the first part in a short series (later collected in The Summoning of the Old Ones), which describes an alien cult's efforts to summon an avatar of malevolent extra-dimensional god Ugghiutu.
Synopsis[]
Struggling artist Maxim Komaroff is commissioned by the enigmatic Kalian Nhil to recreate the final painting in a series of religious images, the original having been destroyed by a woman who believed herself to be acting in the interests of preventing an imminent apocalypse.
As Komaroff works, he begins to dream of an ancient and powerful entity named Ugghiutu, which he comes to believe will be summoned with the completion of the artwork. However, too prideful to leave his masterpiece unfinished, he delivers the final piece to Nhil, and sets in motion a series of events which will rock Punktown to its roots.
Publication History[]
Strangely, "Drawing No. 8" did not receive a release until three years after the final part of the trilogy, "Wunderwaffe", had seen print [2].
