This subject contains information from the Expanded Cthulhu Mythos, and not based on H.P. Lovecraft's works directly. The Dwellers in the Depths are a fictional race created by Chaosium in 1994 for its Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game which were based on Ramsey Campbell's "The Horror from the Bridge".

Overview[]

Said to be associated with entities like Great Cthulhu, Dagon and Mother Hydra, and the cursed Star-Spawn, these creatures appear to be amphibious, with some suggesting they are a larger, more powerful, and advanced strain of Deep One. Inhabititing places beneath the ocean as well (as certain great freshwater lakes), the dwellers may also be found in Deep One cities. On occasion, individuals rise to the surface and walk on land, causing havoc where they go. The Cult of Cthulhu holds the dwellers in great regard and reverence.

Their rubbery, half-gelatinous flesh grants immunity to most physical harm and, in death, a dweller's body quickly decomposes, leaving behind nothing more than a foul-smelling stain.
