Biography

Eibon, known as "the Unfathomable", was the most powerful Hyperborean warlock. He was born in the city of Iqqua, of whose king his father (worshiper of Tsathoggua) was the archivist. He was orphaned at an early age when his family was annihilated by the priests of the goddess Yhoundeh, and he was taken in by the warlock Zylac as an apprentice. Unfortunately, Zylac himself also died during the course of an incorrect summon.

Twenty-one years old, Eibon wandered the world until he settled in a tower on the Mhu Thulan peninsula, where he worshiped his father's god. Since then, his fame grew: he was not only said to be a great magician, but also an excellent sculptor and poet. Among these works, the most recognized was the so-called "Book of Eibon". After being accused of heresy by Morghi, the Inquisitor, magician and priest of Yhoundeh, Eibon is said to have escaped Saturn using a magical portal from Tsathoggua. Morghi followed him there, but since the portal closed and he did not know how to survive on Saturn, he had to ally himself with him and they ended up becoming inseparable. After gaining the trust of the indigenous people, both Eibon and Morghi were worshiped as gods.

Anticipating the future problems that the solar system he was in would face, Eibon wove huge nets to catch a being that would destroy Earth, who was but one of the Seeds of Azathoth.

His current whereabouts are unknown. Some say that his spirit could be found in the Dreamlands.

Curiosities

  • While Randolph Carter is based on Howard Phillips Lovecraft, Eibon has many parallels with its creator Clark Ashton Smith: they were both sculptors, writers, and poets, and were interested in the occult.

Legacy

  • In the Soul Eater anime, Eibon is an enigmatic sorcerer whose wisdom can lead to madness. The Book of Eibon also makes an appearance.
  • Eibon is the name of a French sludge/doom metal group.
  • In the Star Wars franchise, Eibon is the name of a thriving planet known to its proud and independent people.
  • There are also Eibon cards for board games, such as in the "The Millennia of Ages" expansion of the "Force of Will" game, where the Book of Eibon also appears.
