Lovecraft's works directly. Sarah Bear Elizabeth Wishnevsky (born September 22, 1971) is a science fiction writer who publishes under the name Elizabeth Bear. She has repeatedly written stories connected to the Cthulhu Mythos; one such piece, "Shoggoths in Bloom", won the 2009 Hugo Award for Best Novelette. Her Boojumverse stories, written with Sarah Monette, combine the Cthulhu Mythos with the Lewis Carroll bestiary in a space opera setting.

Bear was born in Hartford, Connecticut, and studied English and anthropology at the University of Connecticut without receiving a degree. Her first professionally published story was "Tiger! Tiger!" a "Lovecraft/Conan Doyle/Kipling pastiche" that appeared in Shadows Over Baker Street (2003).[1]

She won the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer in 2005, and won her first Hugo Award in 2008, for the short story "Tideline".
