Fenric is a Great Old One created by the BBC for Doctor Who and is believed by some to be an avatar of Hastur. As one of the most powerful creatures ever described in Doctor Who, its powers are immense; it can manipulate time and space so as to "cause things to happen" ie manipulate history, it can bring mortal beings (for example the Haemovore) from their home time period to its physical location when it has manifested an avatar, and it can kill with a touch.
Fenric is obsessed with strategy and with chess in all its variants in particular. Once engaged in a game of chess it will not be free to act with full power until it wins the game (or is defeated).
