The Cheshire Cat was created by Lewis Carroll in 1865, first appearing in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. In 2008, it first appeared in Zenescope Entertainment's Grimm Fairy Tales fictional universe, in the issue #0 of the 1st volume of Grimm Fairy Tales: Return to Wonderland.

The Cheshire Cat is a house cat that was thrown through the Mirror to Wonderland by the scientist Henry Allen in the late 19th century, where it was transformed into a malicious beast. Who became Johnny Liddle's companion as he pursued his sister Calie Liddle. The Cheshire Cat was later killed by Calie, but due to the power of Wonderland it returned. Infiltrating a dorm room at a college, where it killed its new master's perceived enemies.

  • In the short story "Mongoose", by Elizabeth Bear and Sarah Monette, Cheshire Cats are a sapient species of interdimensional creatures with wedge-shaped heads, multiple eyes, and sensorial barbels. They are so named because they can "phase out" at will, disappearing from sight like their eponym. While they can be befriended by humans, they are also rumoured to be related to the Hounds of Tindalos.
