The main character is Jack Walters, a private investigator suffering from amnesia following a mysterious case in 1915. The majority of the plot takes place seven years later in the seaside town of Innsmouth, Massachusetts. Jack travels to Innsmouth to solve a missing person case, encounters the Esoteric Order of Dagon and their idols of worship and, as the game reaches its conclusion, eventually learns the truth about himself and some of the things that live in the dark corners of the earth.
