Houndeh in the 3rd cycle of her divinity was covered by that spawn which pipes perennially the dire music of chaos and corruption.

This subject contains information from the "Lovecraft Circle" Myth Cycles, and while guided by HPL are not based on his work alone. Yhoundeh or Y'houndeh, The Elk-Goddess, is a being created by the late American author Clark Ashton Smith for his short story "The Door to Saturn".

Description[]

Although given the epithet of "the Elk-Goddess", Youndeh's true appearance is never given. However, in a letter to Robert H. Barlow dated 10 September 1934 Smith stated it to be the offspring of the "androgynous animal archetype" Zyhumé. The same letter also stated that the marriage of Yhoundeh and Nyarlathotep is mentioned in Parchments of Pnom.

Worship[]

Yhoundeh was worshipped in the waning days of Hyperborea, where her priests displayed a fanatic zeal, outlawing the "heretical" worship of older gods and torturing and executing their followers. However, this would prove to be Yhoundeh's downfall as when Morghi, Yhoundeh's high priest, failed to return from an expedition to bring the sorcerer Eibon to trial for his worship of Zothaqquah, the masses believed that dark magic had saved him, and turned from Yhoundeh to once more venerate Zhothaqquah.
