Futurama is an American animated science fiction sitcom created by Matt Groening of The Simpsons fame. It has spawned a series of spin-off comics, numerous direct-to-DVD movies, and endless merchandise.
Premise[]
The story follows a 20th-century delivery boy, Philip J. Fry , who is accidentally frozen in a cryogenic tube. Awakening in the 31st century, he gains employment with interplanetary delivery company Planet Express, which is owned and operated by one of his descendants. The majority of plotlines involve Fry and his two best friends, fellow Planet Express employees Turanga Leela, a one-eyed mutant, and Bender, an entirely amoral former industrial robot. A host of recurrent characters also feature.
Mythos Connections[]
Many Lovecraftian staples have been nodded to or made cameos during the course of the franchise, including R'lyeh, the Great Race of Yith, and even Cthulhu himself. In addition, several original entities which could be considered Lovecraftian have appeared in the show, including the Being of Inconceivable Horror, a three-eyed octopoid creature who purchases the Milky Way at auction.
