"Gathering Forces" is a short Cthulhu Mythos story by American author Jeffrey Thomas. It was first published in the Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game supplement Punktown by Miskatonic River Press/Chronicle City in 2018 [1].
The story is the second in a short series set in Thomas's dystopian sci-fi setting of Punktown, which charts the summoning of an ancient and malevolent got named Ugghiutu.
Synopsis[]
As the Kalian extremists from "Drawing No. 8" begin the ritual to summon an avatar of Ugghiutu, two former gang members begin to realise that something is wrong in their habitation block. While the seed of the avatar grows and starts to consume the neighbourhood, what remains of old gang reform, ready to face the threat with whatever weapons they have to hand.
Behind the Mythos[]
Despite being the second story in a trilogy, delays in the publication of Punktown [2]meant that "Gathering Forces" did not see print until three years after "Wunderwaffe", the final part, was published.
Publication History[]
Since it’s first appearance in Punktown, "Gathering Forces" has also appeared in the 2019 collection of Jeffrey Thomas's own works, The Summoning of the Old Ones [3].
