"Genuine Article" is a short story by mythos author J. B. Lee.
Synopsis[]
A woman researching New Age philosophy for a book uncovers a copy of the Necronomicon which possesses her and attempts to force her to recite a series of incantations which will bring about the return of Yog-Sothoth. The woman's will is strong, however, and she is able to destroy the book, although the effort involved kills her.

"Genuine Article" was published in the fanzine Nightscapes in April 1998. It appeared in Dark Legacy magazine in October of the same year, and was included in the anthology The Best of Dark Legacy, Volume 2 in September 2016.
