The Grace are a benevolent group of Great Old Ones who created the Key to Time. The Black and White Guardians are their agents. They exist outside of time and space, in a state of non-existence. This collective works at keeping the universe together, and when necessary enters reality to prevent its collapse. Beings which are too big to enter normal time and space, the Doctor imagined them as "big, peaceful, pan-dimensional creatures with enormous power". They are in fact entities who can stop time for brief periods and crush the Doctor with a thought. (ADJ: The Chaos Pool)
