Harjit Singh is a character created by Troy Young for his Nyarlathotep Cycle series of Cthulhu Mythos stories. He made his first appearance in the short story "It Slumbers Beneath the Ice".
Description[]
A slight man with dark skin, a winning smile, and a ruthless streak, Singh works for the Canadian Department of Extraordinary Phenomena, an agency whose sole purpose is to protect humankind from the forces of the Cthulhu Mythos, which Singh has dubbed The Other. Within this organisation, he functions as a handler for an unknown number of field agents, a position he has held for six years.
History[]
Singh's first encounter with The Other was on an oil field outside Fort McMurray, where his group was splashed by an anomalous material, Singh being the only one to avoid contamination. In the following days, one of the men snapped and murdered his entire family, and the Department stepped in, euthanising the others and recruiting Singh.
Knowing the potential for insanity through contact with The Other, Singh divorced his wife without explanation, although he still keeps tabs on them through resources provided by the Department.
Singh received a gunshot wound to the leg while investigating a suspected manifestation on a remote island, but the injury was not life-threatening.
He was killed while on a mission to prevent the awakening of Cthulhu in the South Pacific, his human mind unable to cope with the psychic emanations of the stirring god.
