This subject contains information from the Expanded Cthulhu Mythos, and not based on H.P. Lovecraft's works directly. The Harlot is a character created by American comic book creator Michael Alan Nelson for the Boom! Studios Mythos series Fall of Cthulhu. She made her debut appearance in the very first issue in 2007.

Description[]

The Harlot is a large humanoid creature who dresses in a gaudy burlesque style offset by her appearance, which appears to be degenerate to the point of resembling a corpse. A resident of the Dreamlands, she operates a brothel of sorts, trading her secrets for less savoury payments, such as body parts or memories.

The Harlot is a powerful creature in control of her own dream-realm, and has been seen to destroy several Nightgaunts with little effort. Although she is not a match for a being such as the Elder God Nodens, she has stated that she would be capable of making him work for his victory, should such a confrontation come about.

Overview[]

The Harlot chose to help the bereaved dreamer Cy Morgan, even to the point of challenging the Elder God Nodens for the possession of him. She later imprisoned him in one of her boxes at his own request, as he wished to forget the death of his fiancé, which he believed to have been his own fault (EXP: Fall of Cthulhu Volume 1: The Fugue).

Later, the Harlot was instrumental in thwarting Nyarlathotep's plans to bring his army from the Dreamlands to devastate Earth, releasing Morgan from her box and using him as a tool to banish Nyarlathotep to Azathoth's Court, as well as summoning her own army of lost souls to delay the Outer God's forces long enough for Lucifer and Raymond Dirk to send Cthulhu back into his slumber. These acts were revealed to have been performed under the guidance of an entity heavily implied to be Hastur; her reward was to become the new Lord of the Dreamlands, and to have Lucifer marked as her successor in the event that she should fall (EXP: Fall of Cthulhu Volume 4: Godwar; Fall of Cthulhu Volume 5: Apocalypse).
