Howard Lovecraft is a series of Cthulhu Mythos comic books created by Bruce Brown and published by Arcana Studio, begun with Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom in 2009. Despite the setting and names, many of the Mythos elements incorporated into the series have been modified to such an extent that they are nearly unrecognisable from their original incarnations.
Three animated films based on the series have been produced by Arcana Studio since 2016.
Premise[]
The series follows a young Howard Lovecraft and his pet monstrosity, a creature he refers to as Spot for the sake of convenience, as they explore the worlds of the Cthulhu Mythos. Their adventures take them to such far-flung places as Antarctica and R'lyeh, and meet such Mythos alumni as Dagon and Herbert West.
Characters[]
- Howard Lovecraft: a fictionalised version of the real-world author, Howard's father Winfield has been driven insane by what he has witnessed. Left a book written by Winfield, Howard inadvertently uses its contents to travel through dimensions and, occasionally, as a makeshift weapon.
- Spot: a creature who gives its name as Thu Thu Hmong, which Howard saved from certain death and has subsequently sworn his service to the boy. Creator Bruce Brown has confirmed in an interview that Spot is in fact Cthulhu [1].
