Howard Elmer Wandrei (1909 - 1956) was an American artist and author of weird fiction, detective fiction, and science fiction. He was the younger brother of Donald Wandrei and a friend and correspondent of H. P. Lovecraft.
Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Howard Wandrei was arrested for burglary at the age of 18 and spent three years in a reformatory[1]. In 1931, he illustrated his brother's poetry collection, Dark Odyssey, and soon started publishing stories of his own, contributing numerous yarns for Weird Tales, Astounding Stories, and Spicy Mystery Stories. Like many other pulp authors, he frequently used pseudonyms, including Robert A. Garron and Robert Coley. He also provided the cover art for two Arkham House collections of his brother's fiction: The Eye and the Finger (1944) and Strange Harvest (1965).
