It is a 1986 horror novel by Stephen King. It has been called "by far the author’s most Lovecraftian work"[1], with parallels drawn between Pennywise and H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu.
It tells the story of Pennywise the Clown, a shapeshifting entity that emerges every 27 years to prey on the fears of the residents of Derry, Maine. It is an ancient extradimensional creature that comes from a realm it calls the Deadlights.
