Joseph Vernon Shea (1912-1981) was an American author and poet who corresponded with Howard Phillips Lovecraft and a number of his circle, including Clark Ashton Smith and August Derleth.
Overview[]
Shea contributed a number of works to the greater Cthulhu Mythos, and at age 19 entered into a correspondence with Lovecraft in 1931, this relationship lasting until the latter's death in 1937. He was also a long-term member of the Esoteric Order of Dagon Amateur Press Association, and by the time of his death had become their most prolific contributor, a record he still holds as of October 2022.
In addition to his fiction output, Shea also wrote a number of non-fiction works on Lovecraft; these have been published in a variety of studies and periodicals.
