Koth is a fictional city first mentioned in the Conrad & Kirowan stories of the late American author Robert E. Howard. It is also the name of a Hyborian kingdom in Howard's Conan series of sword and sorcery tales, and further expanded upon in this setting by Marvel Comics. Described as a black, cyclopean city, it is believed to be located in the ancient supercontinent of Hyboria.
Despite Howard presenting Koth as a city (CIRCLE: "Dig Me No Grave"), the waters have been somewhat muddied through mentioning it in the same context as such beings as Cthulhu and Yog-Sothoth. This would seem to imply that it is perhaps more than a simple complex of buildings (CIRCLE: "The Fire of Asshurbanipal", Robert E. Howard; EXP: "The Lords of Pain", Richard L. Tierney).
The Tower of Koth, marked with the sign of Koth, is a location in the city of the gugs in H. P. Lovecraft's novel The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath; these are probably unrelated to Robert E. Howard's Koth.
Marvel Comics[]
In the fictional world of Marvel Comics, the being known as Varnae established a lair in Koth, and later clashed with the hero Conan.
Conan also clashed with the Demon Lord of the Dark Valley in Koth.
