The Kyresh is a fictional species created by Walter C. DeBill, Jr. for his Cthulhu Mythos short story "In 'Ygiroth".
Description[]
Kyresh are carnivorous creatures from the Earth's Dreamlands which resemble a combination of horse and bloodhound, with an equine body and long muzzle used to scent prey at distance. Their paws are equipped with talon-like claws, and their jaws are filled with irregular fangs to tear apart prey.
Described as a "morbid relic of an older time", Kyresh were already extinct in most of the Dreamlands when the Thing in the Yellow Mask taught the 'Ygirothians how to ride them. Although the beasts were only "half-tamed" and extremely dangerous to handle, the 'Ygirothians used them as both hounds and steeds when hunting for Buopoths. The Kyresh often killed their masters as well, but surprisingly, this didn't bother the 'Ygirothians, as it meant less people to divide the spoils of the hunt, if successful. Alternatively, if the hunt wasn't successful, the fallen hunters themselves would become food for the survivors. (EXP: "In 'Ygiroth")
