Although a publication in the horror genre, Midnight Shambler had a heavy leaning towards the Cthulhu Mythos and Lovecraftian horror in general, and featured work by a wide array of contributors, including previously-published authors. The first two issues, released in 1998, were edited by David Barker, after which it ceased publication until 1996 when it was revived under Robert M. Price's editorship for another eight issues through until 1998. Joseph S. Pulver, Sr. took the helm for the eleventh and final issue in 1999. Cover art was provided by a variety of different artists, including Allen Koszowski, and Necronomicon Press published the zine throughout its entire run.
