Miles John Breuer, M.D. (1889 - 1945) was an American science fiction author and medical doctor of Czech origin who published stories and medical articles in both English and Czech. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he would later move to Nebraska, where he worked as a physician. During World War One, he served in the US Army Medical Corps.
Breuer's work was most commonly published in Amazing Stories and other magazines geared towards science fiction. However, he did write at least one horror poem, "The Specter", which appeared in Weird Tales. He also co-authored stories with other sci-fi pioneers such as Jack Williamson and Clare Winger Harris.
Breuer was one of the many pulp authors who were spoofed in the comedic short story "The Battle that Ended the Century", by H. P. Lovecraft and R. H. Barlow. The story pairs him with David H. Keller (another author who, like Breuer, was also a medical doctor) and portrays the two as a pair of surgeons named "Drs. D. H. Killer and M. Gin Brewery", who treat those who partook of the cream-puffs sold by a certain "Wladislaw Brenryk".
When August Derleth was asked to provide a glossary to the nicknames used by Lovecraft and Barlow in "The Battle that Ended the Century", he identified "M. Gin Brewery" as "Miles G. Breuer", apparently mistaking Breuer's middle initial for "G", rather than "J". This error has been corrected in reprints.
