Lovecraft, as the alien entity who transfers minds with Nathaniel Wingate Peaslee in the novella The Shadow Out of Time (1936). He is given the name Ys in Peter Rawlik's Cthulhu Mythos novel The Weird Company (2014), and plays a significant role in Rawlik's Mythos stories involving the Peaslee family.

Overview[]

Mister Ys is a member of the Great Race of Yith, a species of time- and space-travelling aliens who are capable of inhabiting the bodies of other beings in their quest to view major events from the entirety of the universe's history.

In Mister Ys's case, he appears to be capable of travelling through alternate realities as well, as he appears to have witnessed at least two separate fates of the human race. In one, he and thousands of other Yithians observe the outbreak of a zombie invasion, having made provisions which may allow a select few humans--including Pandora Peaslee--to survive the collapse of civilisation (EXP: "Time Flies"). In another, Mister Ys and the Yithians have taken over the Earth and work with human collaborators in keeping the population under their thumb; in this reality, a resistance movement learns to control the zombie hordes and employs them as an ad-hoc army. Here, mister Ys's human body was destroyed, although whether he was able to relocate his consciousness beforehand is uncertain (EXP: "The Pestilence of Pandora Peaslee").

Mister Ys inhabited the body of Titus Sempronius Blaesus in Ancient Rome, playing the part of the Cigarette Smoking Man in an historical homage to The X-Files (EXP: "Tempus Edax Rerum").
