Lieutenant Newt Bardhoff is a character created by American author Brandon Berntson for his Lovecraft Mysteries trilogy of Cthulhu Mythos novels. He made his debut appearance in 2018's The Night of Dagon.
Description[]
Bardhoff is a thin man who is usually clean-shaven, who is described as being "pleasant, easy to talk to". A lieutenant in the Innsport Police Department, he is married to a shy bookstore owner named Amelia, and is good friends with the protagonist of The Lovecraft Mysteries, private investigator Devlin Macky. Prior to his marriage, Bardhoff had a "harmless, innocent crush" on Macky's secretary Millie Von Clydesburgh.
Although single at the beginning of the series, at the end of The Night of Dagon Bardhoff is introduced to a shy bookstore owner named Amelia; by the time of the events described in The Lurker at the Threshold, the two have been married for around two years.
History[]
After being assigned the case of an artefact stolen from the Innsport Natural History Museum, Bardhoff and his partner Inspector Duke Givens found themselves investigating a missing persons case on the estate of cultist Mordred Haddonfield. Captured by Haddonfield and his undead servant Borgas, they were destined to be sacrificed to the recently-awoken Dagon: the timely intervention of Macky and Millie Von Clydesburgh saved them from this fate, and the pair returned to Innsport to begin an evacuation ahead of Dagon's murderous rampage (EXP: The Night of Dagon).
Bardhoff was heavily involved in the battle against the Mad Arab Abdul Alhazred, the Outer Gods, and their legions of monstrous minions after Macky accidentally kickstarted Alhazred's plot to bring about the return of his dark masters (EXP: The Lurker at the Threshold).
