This subject contains information from the Expanded Cthulhu Mythos, and not based on H.P. Lovecraft's works directly. The Ny'ghan Grii, a.k.a. Dwellers in the Hidden World, are a fictional race created in 1939 by Henry Kuttner for his Cthulhu Mythos short story "The Invaders". In 1994, Chaosium incorporated them into the role-playing game Call of Cthulhu. As is often the case Chaosium has somewhat departed from the original source material to produce something more compatible with roleplay gaming.

Background[]

The Ny'ghan Grii are an extra-dimensional race of luminous spherical creatures with glossy ivory-yellow semi-translucent vine-like appendages ending in raw looking stumps covered in cilia. They posses a single great faceted eye at the top of their rugose bodies, with a puckered orifice below this eye. They move by crawling or floating, accompanied by icy cold and a thick fog.

Originating from another dimension, the Ny'ghan Grii seek entry to other worlds, searching for sacrifices or disturbances in the time/space fabric that will give them entry. They desire to wipe out all life on Earth so that they can colonise the planet. They vocalise in strange bird-like skirling or shrill whistles. They can produce a chilling blast and have the ability to devolve victims into increasingly bestial forms. One of their methods of killing is to flay the flesh from their victims.

The Nyghan Grii are similar to the Doels and the Mind Parasites. They are probably the Hidden Ones. They fear the Elder God, Vorvadoss.
