Nyaruko (also known as Nyarlathotep) is an extraterrestrial entity from the fictional universe of the Haiyore! Nyaruko-san series.
Background[]
Nyaruko is a member of the Space Defense Agency, an alien organization dedicated to stopping intergalactic crimes. Nyaruko was sent to Earth to protect Mahiro Yasaka, a human boy that she fell in love with. Mahiro constantly rejects Nyaruko's advances towards him, usually with violence (i.e. stabbing her with forks) due to her persistence. Despite this, he does genuinely love her back but is often turned off by her behavior. Nyaruko would later be joined by her childhood friends Kuuko and Hasuta, the former of which is madly in love with her despite Nyaruko expressing zero interest in return and the latter is in love with Mahiro, making both of them an inconvenience for Nyaruko's relationship.
Nyaruko is capable of shapeshifting and takes the form of a silver-haired petite human girl, as her true form would cause people to lose their sanity. Her species was the inspiration for the character "Nyarlathotep" from H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. In combat, she uses a plethora of weapons including a crowbar, grenades, swords and chainsaws.
It is later revealed that, as an incarnation of the character, Nyaruko is protected by the Story of Nyarlathotep, preventing anyone from truly defeating her. The final volume of the light novel series features a parody of Demonbane's Athleta Aeternum, where the Story of Nyarlathotep summons an army of infinite Nyarlathoteps from popular culture to save Nyaruko.
