That pamphlet is a trap, and a most damnable one, created by the worshippers of the Hydra to lure victims into the maw of their god!
~ "Hydra"

This subject contains information from the "Lovecraft Circle" Myth Cycles, and while guided by HPL are not based on his work alone. On the Sending Out of the Soul is an occult text created by American author Henry Kuttner for his 1939 short story "Hydra".

Description[]

A 4" by 5" pamphlet running to eight pages, On the Sending Out of the Soul contains seven pages of "banal sophisms of mysticism" with the last page giving instructions on how to project one's astral self. The instructional is deceptive, however, with those who follow the directions causing the beheading of others who are then fed upon by the extra-dimensional entity dubbed the Hydra, their souls forever trapped in a state of extreme anguish.

History[]

On the Sending Out of the Soul was published in Salem in 1793 by worshipers of the Hydra, although whether it originated here is unclear. All copies of it are presumed destroyed in the modern age.
