Pierre was the servant of the Comte Antoine de C--, from the story "The Alchemist" by H. P. Lovecraft. After the deaths of the young Antoine's parents, his care and education became the responsibility of Pierre, the family's last remaining servant. Pierre was described by Antoine as "an old and trusted man of considerable intelligence."
During Antoine's youth, Pierre restricted his interactions with the local peasant children in order to avoid exposing him to tales and gossip concerning the curse on Antoine's family. Upon the Comte's twenty-first birthday, Pierre gave to him a family document handed down from father to son through many generations which revealed the history and origin of the curse.
Antoine was near the age of thirty when the elderly Pierre died, presumably of natural causes. He was buried beneath the courtyard of the family castle.
