Pnidleethon is a fictional planet first mentioned by Clark Ashton Smith in his story fragment "The Infernal Star" and later expanded upon by John W. Patterson in "Priestess of Nycrama".
Description[]
Pnidleethon is a planer which orbits the binary star system comprised of Yamil Zacra and Yuzh. It is inhabited by an intelligent an magically-proficient race of alien beings whose name has not been revealed.
Every night, the planet is scoured by enormous flocks of red-eyed, bat-winged creatures called Pnumbrals, whose purpose is to "eliminate the foolish, the unwary, and the slothful of Pnidleethon" (EXP: "Priestess of Nycrama").
Pnidleethon is also home to a species of semi-animate flora called Khisanti trees, which appear to be benign in nature (EXP: "Priestess of Nycrama").
The Royal Palace[]
Avalzant, one of Pnidleethon's rulers, maintains a royal palace, although little is known of this structure.
Known Inhabitants[]
- Avalzant, a member of Pnidleethon's royal family
- Endura/Avrenim, Avalzant's daughter
- Dr. Claude Farnsworth, Avrenim's human lover
Behind the Mythos[]
In his afterword for the digital chapbook containing "Priestess of Nycrama", Patterson states that:
“ | Avalzant, Pnidleethon, Yamil Zacra, Yuzh, and N(y)ecrama are fantastic names and places, inspiring me to write, first used by Clark Ashton Smith in his unfinished tale, "The Infernal Star", begun in 1933. | „ |
