Rex Murphy, the Reporter, is a fictional character created by Fantasy Flight Games who appears in their interpretation of H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos.

History

An investigative reporter for the Arkham Advertiser, Rex had looked into many strange reports in his time, but had always managed to lose any evidence before these stories had gone to press. His photographs from Innsmouth had blown out to sea in a gust of wind, the bizarre tracks he found in Dunwich had washed away in a freak storm before anyone was able to verify them, and those were most certainly not the only incidents.

On Rex’s most recent excursion, this time to Lithuania, he had gone to see an old gypsy fortune teller, who had screamed him right out of her home, claiming that he was cursed. Soon afterwards, the diary that he had uncovered concerning cult activity in the area had mysteriously gone missing.

Returning to Arkham empty-handed, Rex quickly went to work trying to uncover what he believed was a global conspiracy.

Behind the Mythos

The character of Rex Murphy was first introduced by Fantasy Flight as part of their Kingsport Horror expansion for the Second Edition of adventure board game Arkham Horror in 2008. Since then, they have used him in several of their other releases - including Arkham Horror: The Card Game and Elder Sign - and released a (now discontinued) plastic miniature of him as part of their Arkham Horror Premium Figures line.
