Lovecraft's works directly. Richard Watts[1] (born July 6th 1967) is an Australian game designer, arts journalist and broadcaster who has been writing for the Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game for over three decades. He also contributed to Chaosium's out of print Stormbringer and Elric! game lines, as well as to White Wolf's World of Darkness games in the 1990s.

Overview[]

After encouragement from his friend and former housemate Mark Morrison, as well as then-Line Editor Keith Herber, Watts' first contribution to Call of Cthulhu was the scenario "A Little Knowledge" in the first edition on Arkham Unveiled (1990). Two of his scenarios for the game, the Ramsey Campbell-inspired "Love's Lonely Children" in Cthulhu Now collection The Stars Are Right! and the 1920s-set "Behold the Mother" in Dead Reckonings (which introduced Watts' most significant contribution to the Cthulhu Mythos to date, the lesser Outer God known as the Mother of Pus) appeared on a list of "The Most Disturbing Call of Cthulhu Scenarios Chaosium Has Ever Licensed".[2] Most recently he contributed to the second edition of Chaosium's Terror Australis (2018) and Golden Goblin Press' Cthulhu Invictus supplement Britannia & Beyond (2023), for which which he wrote the chapter about Ireland/Hibernia.
