This subject is written on a topic in the real world and reflects factual information. This subject contains information from the "Lovecraft Circle" Myth Cycles, and while guided by HPL are not based on his work alone. This subject contains information from the Expanded Cthulhu Mythos, and not based on H.P. Lovecraft's works directly. S. Petersen's Field Guide to Cthulhu Monsters is a background sourcebook for Chaosium's Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game.

Overview[]

The book consists of an in-depth look at 27 of the most commonly-encountered monsters in the Cthulhu Mythos, with a full-colour painting of each and other details such as size comparison charts. It was written by Sandy Petersen and Lynn Willis with artwork provided by Tom Sullivan, and runs to 64 pages. It should be noted that while the Field Guide was marketed as a gaming aid, it features no actual game information such as monster stats, and is solely of use as a flavour guide.

Publication History[]

S. Petersen's Field Guide to Cthulhu Monsters was first published by Chaosium in 1988. Although is is now out of print, a successor of sorts has been released in the form of S. Petersen's Field Guide to Lovecraftian Horrors., which features the same creatures in a similar format, but with a number of updates.
