Satha is a character created by Robert E. Howard, appearing in the stories "The Scarlet Citadel" (1933) and the "The Valley of the Worm" (1934), Conan and James Allison stories respectively.

Satha first appeared in Marvel Comics in the adaptation of "The Valley of the Worm" in Supernatural Thrillers #3 (April, 1973). "Scarlet Citadel" was later adapted in Savage Sword of Conan #30. He also appeared in Darkhorse Comics.

Background[]

During the Hyborian Age, Satha dwelt in the southern jungles of the Country of the Worm, terrorizing the Picts. When a tribe of Aesir split from Niord's tribe (as part of their colonization of the place), they migrated to the area, where the eldritch creature known as the Worm killed them, urging Niord, the leader of the tribe who hunted it down and appeared to slay it. In this perspective, he trapped and killed Satha, using his poison to slay the Worm, but died during the battle.

Sometime before or after, Satha lived in Koth where it encountered the powerful sorcerer Tsotha-Lanti to whom it submitted. Conan of Cimmeria would end up in the sorcerer's citadel and encountered it two times, both times surviving though not because of his own actions.
