This subject contains information from the Expanded Cthulhu Mythos, and not based on H.P. Lovecraft's works directly. Spot, also known as Thu Thu Hmong and who is later confirmed to be Cthulhu, is a character who appears in Arcana Studio's Howard Lovecraft series of children’s comics. He made his first appearance in the graphic novel Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom.

Description[]

When first encountered, Spot resembles common depictions of the Cthulhi: a large, humanoid being whose lower face is hidden by a mass of tentacles. Later, after his transformation, he takes on a more octopoid appearance, seemingly losing much of his body in the process.

History[]

When young Howard Lovecraft accidentally used the Necronomicon to transport himself to the frozen kingdom of R'lyeh, he encountered the Deep One Thu Thu Hmong, who he saved from falling into a crevasse. In gratitude, the creature, who Howard calls Spot as he is unable to remember its full name, pledged itself to his service, and the two helped the citizens of R'lyeh to rid the land of its icy curse. However, the people had been lying to them, and were in fact cultists dedicated to awakening Great Cthulhu. As they conducted their ritual, Spot began to change, and was later revealed to have become Cthulhu.

Later, Spot accompanied young Howard on a series of adventures, travelling to such far-flung places as Antarctica and Yuggoth, and encountering a succession of Mythos luminaries including Dr. Herbert West and Azathoth.
